Welcome to HysteriaWare Software's Chain Reaction! If you have
liked past releases of HysteriaWare, you are going to LOVE this!
Chain Reaction is based on the television game show. The game
consists of many "word chains", each of which contains seven
words. Every word, and the word above and below it, have
some sort of relation. The goal of the player is to guess
all the words in the chain, taking as little assistance
as possible from the computer. The words can be related
by sound or various relations. For example, if the first
word was "BASKET", then the word under it may be "BALL" (for
BASKET BALL). Or, if the next word was just related to
the word "BASKET" it could be "BROWN" (because a basket can
be brown). If this sounds confusing, you'll understand when
you play the game.
The door game has a twist. The game may be played for system
time. When a user takes a letter from the computer, a certain
amount of minutes are subtracted from the user's account. When
the user finally guesses the word, he/she receives a certain
amount of minutes for EVERY letter that was guessed in the
word.
There is the game in a nut-shell. Here are its features:
■ Full RemoteAccess v1.11 and QuickBBS v2.75 support.
Also, by disabling the gambling time function, the
game will run on any BBS conversion program that
can create the RA v1.11 or Quick v2.75 EXITINFO.BBS
and DORINFO1.DEF files.
■ Full Multi-Node Support for RemoteAccess & QuickBBS.
■ Extensive configuration flexibility. All the time options
(including disabling time option) are configurable. The
CR-Utils program makes configuration SIMPLE!
■ Users who wish to play for recreation may temporarily
disable the time gambling mode. However, any time that
was added/subtracted before the gambling mode was shut
off will still be added/subtracted.
■ A database of 250 unique word chains.
■ Great Ansi Graphics - Ascii play too!
■ Top 5 Players for the current month.
■ The flexibility to add Official HysteriaWare Chain Update
files to the game's database.
■ Keyboard Time-Out and Carrier Detection Security.

║ Chain Reaction Files ║
╙──────────────────────╜
The following files should be found in the CHAIN100.ZIP file:
CHAIN.EXE .................. Actual Door Program
CR-UTILS.EXE .................. Configuration, Registration
and Chain Update Program.
CHAIN.DOC .................. Chain Reaction Documentation
CHAIN.DAT .................. Standard Chain Data File
CRSINGLE.BAT .................. Example Single Node .BAT File
CRMULTI.BAT .................. Example Multi Node .BAT File
HYSTWARE.ADD .................. HysteriaWare Software Info
Chain Reaction also creates many configuration and data files.
╓───────────────────────────╖
║ Setting Up Chain Reaction ║
╙───────────────────────────╜
Installation of the Chain Reaction is a two step process. First,
the door must be setup to run through a single or multi-node
RemoteAccess or QuickBBS system. Then, the door must be configured
for use on your system. Both parts of configuration have been
simplified to the fullest. The configuration process is described
below. Simply follow the instructions for one of the # of node
installations and the custom configuration for your system.
╓────────────────────────────────────╖
║ Installing to a Single-Node System ║
╙────────────────────────────────────╜
You have two options of setup with a Single-Node System.
Option #1 - Install to Main BBS Directory:
1) Copy all Chain Reaction files into your main BBS directory.
(ie: C:\RA)
2) Simply run CHAIN.EXE (with NO parameters) using a Type 7
exit from RemoteAccess/QuickBBS.
Option #2 - Install to another directory:
1) Copy all Chain Reaction files into a separate directory
(ie: C:\DOORS\CHAIN)
2) Using a Type 7 Exit from RemoteAccess/QuickBBS, execute a
batch file such as the included CRSINGLE.BAT. You must
tell Chain Reaction where it can find files such as
DORINFO1.DEF and EXITINFO.BBS. The syntax is:
syntax: CHAIN.EXE [Path to Files]
ie: CHAIN.EXE C:\RA
See CRSINGLE.BAT for example of changing directories
and running the Chain Reaction Program.
╓───────────────────────────────────╖
║ Installing to a Multi-Node System ║
╙───────────────────────────────────╜
Setting up Chain Reaction for a Multi-Node System is easy if you
follow these directions. To run Chain Reaction in Multi-Node mode
you must install SHARE.EXE that comes with your MS-DOS package.
For more information on SHARE, see your DOS manual.
So that there is no confusion, these directions will be as
detailed as possible. Please follow these step by step.
1) Create a seperate directory on your system and copy
all the Chain Reaction files into that directory.
(ie: C:\DOORS\CHAIN)
Now for the actual system installation. The example batch file
CRMULTI.BAT will be the file referred to in these steps. You
may rename this batch file to suit your needs.
2) Create a Type 7 menu entry with the following info:
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
1 2 3 4 5 6
123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901
[^C^] Chain Reaction
COMMAND.COM /C CRMULTI.BAT *N
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
The optional data is what is important here. The
COMMAND.COM /C CRMULTI.BAT simply calls the batch
file. Make sure the batch file that runs the door
is placed in a pathed directory so RA/Quick can
easily locate it. The *N tells CRMULTI.BAT which
node number the program is being executed for. The
number passed by *N becomes the %1 in the batch
file.
3) Modify the batch file to suit your needs. In this
setup, Chain Reaction needs to know where to find files
such as DORINFO1.DEF and EXITINFO.BBS. The syntax is:
syntax: CHAIN.EXE [Path to Files]
ie: CHAIN.EXE C:\RA\LINE%1
The %1 represents the node number passed by the *N
from RA/Quick. In this example, if the nodenumber
was 1, Chain Reaction would look for the files in the
directory C:\RA\LINE1.
For more help on this, see the example batch file
CRMULTI.BAT.
╓──────────────────╖
║ CR-Utils Program ║
╙──────────────────╜
The Chain Reaction package contains the "CR-Utils" program. This
easy to use program allows you to configure the door, add official
HysteriaWare Update chains, and complete the registration form. To
run this program, simply type CR-UTILS from the directory which all
the Chain Reaction files are located. The individual functions of
the program are described below.
╓────────────────────────────╖
║ Configuring Chain Reaction ║
╙────────────────────────────╜
Chain Reaction must be configured to meet the needs of your system.
Configuration has been made as easy as possible, even for the
novice SysOp. To start, run CR-Utils. The first time you run
the program, a default configuration file will be created for you.
To customize the configuration file, simply activate the Configuration
command from the CR-Utils menu. To cut down on lengthy documentation,
every configuration option is described in FULL detail. If you like
a setting as its default, simply press ENTER to keep it the same.
However, at the very least, make sure you configure the name of
your BBS and type of BBS software correctly. You may re-enter
CR-Utils at anytime in the future and re-configure the door.
╓─────────────────────╖
║ Updating the Chains ║
╙─────────────────────╜
We will continue to develope chains for the Chain Reaction program.
Every so often, we will release "Chain Update Files" which will
be available for File Request from 1:324/174.
When new chains become available, adds will be posted in the
RemoteAccess, RemoteAccess Utilities, and QuickBBS echoes. Simply
obtain the new chain file, un-zip it into your Chain Reaction
directory, and run CR-Utils. From the CR-Utils menu, select
the option to add update files. The rest will be done automatically
for you!
╓──────────────╖
║ Registration ║
╙──────────────╜
Chain Reaction is the result of a LOT of work. Registering the
program will give incentive to continue the developement of
new versions, new chains, and future HysteriaWare doors. Here
is the way I feel about your registration:
Please make an effort to register this program. However,
if you are financially unable to register the door, please
continue to use it. There are ABSOLUTELY NO little hidden
devices that make the door "bomb" after a certain amount
of days, nor am I going to hunt you down if you do not
register. Our doors are written for the enjoyment of
the RemoteAccess/QuickBBS community. Please run the door
whether it is registered or not, but please make an
effort to register.
Registration prices are very fair for the amount of time and
effort gone into this package. The KEY you receive will be
valid for ANY AND ALL future versions of Chain Reaction.
Please consider this as a PROMISE.
To register, run CR-Utils and select the registration option.
By answering all the questions, a standard registration form
is generated for you. The form may be printed or exported
to a text file. This process is easier for both of us. By
receiving a standard form, we can quickly ship/put up for
F'Req your key(s). Oh, and since you read this, thanks for
your interest in registration.

║ Thanks! ║
╙─────────╜
Making all the chains for this game has not been easy. If we
had made all the chains by ourselves, the game would not have
so many. Special thanks to:

Since no one really cares, but I have to do it, this section has
been placed at the END of this document.
Chain Reaction may be distributed freely as long as no changes are
made to the executables or documentaion and no fee is charged for
the distribution of it.
The MASS Hysteria BBS or myself will not be responsible in any way
for any damage or aggravation this program could potentially cause.
The door has been beta tested on RemoteAccess v1.10+, v1.11+, and
QuickBBS v2.75 without any problems. However, if problems do occur,
I will gladly help you fix them but not take responsibility.
